In this training, we will...

  • Reframe discipline as a definer of family values and a way of guiding children through different developmental stages rather than a harsh or controlling parental stance
  • Understand the key concept of disorientation vs. willful disobedience
  • Provide a sound developmental picture using the Simplicity Parenting 3 G’s Model and learn tools to guide parental discipline gestures
  • Simplicity Parenting 3 G’s Model:
    • Governor (younger child)- How to reestablish loving limits for younger children
    • Gardener (tween years)- How to listen and attune without losing authority
    • Guide (teen years)- How to work with a teen’s goals and direction by identifying distractions

Who usually takes the training? +

Parents (or other family members) with children of all ages seeking skills to support their own parenting; and Educators/ Special Education Teachers, Therapists, Social Workers, Child Care Providers, School Directors and Administrators who may provide parenting support, education, and group classes.

How much does the training cost? +

Training fee: $980      Early Bird fee: $880

We offer an Early Bird discount of $100 for registrations made within the Early Bird period.  In addition to our single pay option, you will also find a 3 installment payment option at time of registration.  Please note your tuition fee includes a $150 non-refundable administration fee.

Do you offer group discounts? +

Discounts are available for groups of 12 or more care professionals from the same organization. If you have such a group, please contact katharine@socialsustain.com to arrange your discount.

How often is the training offered? +

We currently offer this training once a year; late January through early March including 4 weekday conference calls in two week intervals.

Is there a pre-requisite for the training? +

No. Registration in the Simplicity Parenting Discipline & Guidance Coach Training is open to everyone.

Do you offer further training and certification? +

We will be offering a comprehensive certification to become a Simplicity Parenting Counselor. If you are considering this, you will need to complete all three primary trainings: SPFLC Training, SPDGC Training, and upcoming Simplicity Parenting Emotional Self Regulation Training.

What are the learning materials? +

- Video modules by Kim John Payne- including extensive information on developmental phases of childhood, guidelines for parents with tips and tools, a comprehensive overview of brain based information, and practical language to share with your community, all focused on the theme of discipline and guidance in family life, and based on Kim John Payne’s book, The Soul of Discipline.

-Access to power point presentations accompanying the video modules.

-A detailed curriculum for delivering a 4-Gathering Parent Series in your community and guidance for offering longer series and/or workshops for specific developmental stages (i.e. early childhood only- 4 part series, or evening workshop). This material can be adapted for parent education evenings.

-A Coaches Guidebook to support the 4-Gathering curriculum including parent handouts for parent groups, education nights, and workshops.

-A Group Work video module providing foundational instruction in group dynamics and group leader skills including handouts.

-Co-learning with your co-participants via 4 conference calls with trainers, Kim John Payne and Carrie Thomas Scott and access to a group conversation forum.

How much time should I allow for study during the training? +

Depending on your study skills, we suggest 4-6 hours a week prior to and during the weeks between the 4 conference calls, for reading, watching and studying your training materials, and submitting your reflection assignments. Participants who are using English as a second or third language may need to allow more time for study.

Can I take the training from outside the USA? +

Yes. The learning materials are accessible through our website and include access to video modules for self-paced individual study. You can buy Skype phone minutes very inexpensively to pay for attending the conference calls from anywhere in the world. Conference calls are recorded and available for listening to in the event you are unable to dial in though we encourage you to join live.

Do I need a computer or any special skills to do the training? +

You will need to have email for communicating with your learning community and Internet service to access your learning materials through our Discipline & Guidance Training Center.  Hosted within that site will be links for learning modules and access to an online forum for posting your reflection assignments.

What if I have to miss a call? +

All conference calls are record so you can easily catch up, and refresh later. We encourage you not to miss more than one call.

How does the certification and re-certification process work? +

-Upon completion of the training, you will receive a Certificate of Completion with Permission to Practice for one year.

-Upon completion of the training, you will be connected to our Simplicity Parenting Discipline & Guidance Coaches Center free of charge (for one year) in which you will receive:

  • Access to a wealth of information including ongoing workshops and resources within our Simplicity Parent Community Area.
  • Access to our Coaches communication platform that provides peer support, group collaboration, and is moderated by trainers.
  • Access to simply organized archived resources, articles, etc.
  • Marketing support for leading groups and building a sustainable Discipline and Guidance Coach practice.
  • Access to Mentor Calls facilitated by Simplicity Parenting trainers.

-You are able to use the name Simplicity Parenting, with its growing international and national recognition, for promoting your Discipline and Guidance work (specific guidelines to follow).

-You will be invited to post your profile on our website page > Help for Parents: “Find a Simplicity Parenting Discipline & Guidance Coach near you”.

Re-certification: Annual re-certification will be required to lead parent groups after the one year Permission to Practice period. You will be invited to subscribe to the Discipline & Guidance Coaches Center for a monthly fee of $19.95.  This subscription provides all the benefits described above and allows you to continue leading parent groups, maintain access to the Coaches Center, and stay current with your re-certification through mentorship and ongoing education opportunities.

How will I be able to apply my learning once I’ve completed the training? +

You will be able to utilize this material to guide your understanding of development and discipline practices in your personal family life, in the classroom and school environment, in your clinical practice; and in the offering of parent education or parent group classes.
